38 Special Special was formed in 1977 and has been going strong more than 25 years later.
The members that founded the band included Van Zant and Don Barnes on vocals and
guitar, Ken Lyons on bass, Jeff Carlisi on guitar, Jack Grondin on drums, and
Steve Brookins on drums. 38 Special, most known for their hits "Hold on Loosely,"
"If I'd Been the One," and "Caught up in You," has had top-ten
hits, gold and platinum albums, and sold-out numerous stadium tours. The band
signed a recording contract with A&M Records in 1977, which released their
first self-titled album that year, followed by Special Delivery in 1978. Their
third album, Rockin' Into the Night, was released in 1979, with a single that
hit the top 40. In the year 1981 the group scored with Wild Eyed Southern Boys,
which included the top-40 song, "Hold on Loosely." The following album,
Special Forces, (1982), included two top-ten hits, "If I'd Been the One"
and "Caught Up in You.” Since Resolution, their comeback album (1997),
they have released three more albums. In 2002, 38 Special recorded the soundtrack
for an independent film titled Super Troopers that was shown at the Sundance Film
Festival. The band continues to develop as the years pass. "If we did the
same thing over and over and over again, or like we did five years ago, it would
be very boring for us. And I think as writers and musicians, we have matured." Check out our other Rock Stars
